Get to Know a Pro: A Q+A with Amanda Bauman
For Amanda Bauman, there's two parts to the fly fishing equation—if you break it down to its simplest form. The fish and the water. And it's up to us to learn about the fish and study the ways of the water. Amanda learned to fish in her spare time as she was growing up in Idaho, after school and in between shifts as a firefighter. A former elementary school educator, Amanda brings her nature as a teacher to her work as.a guide. She says, "We are all still learning—no matter how many years you've been fishing, there's still more to learn. So I bring that curiosity to every moment I spent on the water. And I love to share that with my clients." Amanda is also the Director of Project Big Wood, a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting and rehabilitating her home waters, the Big Wood River of the Sun Valley, Idaho area. About this work, Amanda says," With Project Big Wood and with my guiding, I hope to inspire a sense of commitment to protecting the Big Wood watershed. If people understand the way a watershed works and the ways our behaviors impact the health of that watershed, then we can make a positive impact on that river and other rivers!"

Get to Know a Pro: A Q+A with Zach Crist
A former ski racer who was raised in Sun Valley, Idaho, in a family of adventure hounds, Zach Crist has spent his fair share of time in uncomfortable situations. Whether it was standing at the top of a race course on a mountain in sub-zero weather wearing nothing but a race suit and ski boots, waiting for the sun to hit the run, or logging mile "too-many-to-count" while backpacking in his "home range" of the Sawtooth Mountains when he was a little kid, Zach learned how to embrace challenge from an early age. This tolerance for challenges, evidently, turns into an appetite for adventure. As the owner/operator of Sun Valley guides, Zach has built a life around sharing his passion for adventure and wild places with others. He is committed to giving his clients the experience, skills, and understanding of operating in the backcountry that will keep them coming back to the mountains again and again.

Our Cache - The Jackson Hole Alpine Adventure Edit
The majesty of the Tetons. The charm of an old Western town. Jackson Hole doesn't do anything half-assed whether it's views, charm, or recreational verve. Jackson is C7's home base, and the alpine adventures at your fingertips here just cannot be matched. Our C7 Roadshow team decided to pause our peripatetic ways for a little staycation this fall, and we reflected on some of our must-dos—a few "right-now" adventures for the spontaneous set following along and a few for next summer for those long-range planners in the mix.

Riding... For a Cause
Best Buddies Breakaway Camps are epic riding adventures with pro-level coaching. Cache_Seven joined the Aspen Breakaway camp in September and while the riding was, indeed, epic, we were there to support Best Buddies International and the work they do to end the social, physical and economic isolation of the 200 million people worldwide with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). Their programs empower people with IDD to form meaningful friendships with their peers, secure jobs, improve communication and advocacy skills, and live independently, while also offering support for their families. We'll ride to that!

The Super Bowl of Fly Fishing... For a Cause
It started with one (simple?) question, “If you only had one fly to fish for a day, what would it be?” A question originally floated to a wide audience by legendary angler Lee Wulff in a story he published in Outdoor Life . It's the fly fisher's version of "If you were stranded on a deserted island..." Let the daydreams and the arguments over the virtues of one fly over another begin. A decade or so later, in 1986, Jackson-based fly fishing guides Jack Dennis and Paul Bruun took that question and turned it into what has now become the Super Bowl of fly fishing. Or the longest-running, most hell-yes-I-want-to-be-a-part-of-that-event, fresh-water fishing competition in North America. For 38 years now, One Fly has been a weekend in September where some of the world's most passionate (crazy?) followers of the fly descend on Jackson Hole, Wyoming, to relish in the joys of competition, raise money for conservation, and build community around a shared passion.
